How to Choose a Shower Chair or Bath Bench
Fixed height or adjustable, with or without a backrest — what matters most for bathroom safety.
Shower chair, stool or transfer bench?
A shower chair with a backrest and arms gives the most support and suits most users. A simple stool takes up less space for walk-in showers. A transfer bench, which spans the edge of the tub, is better suited to bathtubs where stepping over the wall is difficult.
Look for adjustable, rust-resistant legs
Height-adjustable legs let you match the seat to the user's knee height, and rubber-capped, rust-resistant legs (aluminium or treated steel) hold up far better in a wet bathroom over time.
Pair it with grab bars and a non-slip mat
A shower chair reduces fall risk, but it works best alongside a securely mounted grab bar and a non-slip mat on the shower floor.
